Are You Using Your Talents
Doing Work You Love?
“Worldwide, only 13% of employees are engaged at work across 142 countries.”

Discover Your Talent–Do What You Love is a podcast hosted by Don Hutcheson. Every Tuesday Don interviews someone who has discovered his or her true talents and abilities and figured out how to use them doing work they love.
The podcast series is designed for people of every age and background who are looking to build a life and career that uses the best of who they are to enjoy a life of success, satisfaction and freedom.
Each individual that Don interviews shares their life journey—their victories and setbacks, their supporters and detractors, the steps they took to begin using their talents more fully, and the life-changing Point of No Return when they realized they would never go back to a career that did not use their talents and gifts every day.
Are You Wasting Your Talents
Or Using Them?
Regrettably, the majority of people do not use their inborn talents and gifts in the work they do every day.
Consequently they sleepwalk through their lives and put little energy into their careers. Results from a recent international survey highlight this disturbing fact.
In a worldwide survey by the Gallup Organization released in November, 2013, which polled 230,000 people in 142 countries:
- 87% of survey respondents reported HIGH DISSATISFACTION with the work they do.
- 70% of workers in the United States are also DISSATISFIED with the work they do—52% feel blah about their work and 18% reported that they hate their jobs.
- Only 1% of U.S. employees said they love what they do at work.
Gallup estimates that “actively disengaged employees” cost the U.S. $450 billion to $550 billion in lost productivity per year.
What’s Going On Here?
How Can This Be?
Why do so many of us settle for lives and careers that are stressful, unfulfilling and downright boring?
There is a good reason why.
The decisions we face when we are making education, career and life choices are nothing less than monumental.
The process of planning one’s education, career and life is perhaps the most complex and gut-wrenching experience we will ever face.
But no one ever tells us that!
Instead, guided by our parents, our teachers and counselors, our managers and bosses and even our close friends—all with the best intentions—we tend to take the road most often travelled and most familiar.
Sometimes that is exactly what we should do.
As the statistics show, however, more often than not, doing what is expected and comfortable is rarely the best direction for us to take.
Why?
No matter how loving the advice of family and friends, no matter how much experience or how many advanced degrees some expert has, none of these people will ever know a fraction of what you need to know to plot your life’s course.
They can never give you the answers you seek.
Only you know the answers. They are inside you right now.
They always have been, they always will be…..
And while the decisions have huge repercussions on your life and the process is indeed challenging, there are myriad ways for you to navigate through the labyrinth.
This is why Don interviews individuals of all ages, in every imaginable profession and field—so that listeners can be exposed to the countless ways to solve their own education, career and life riddles on their own terms and timetable.
Some people use their talents; others ignore them.
Which one are you?
We hope this podcast series will help you discover your own special talents and gifts so that you can do what you love.
