SHOW THEME: “DISCOVER YOUR TALENT-DO WHAT YOU LOVE”
Every day I interview someone from around the world who has discovered his or her true talents and is using them to build a life of success, satisfaction and freedom. Twice a week I talk with veteran experts in education and career planning who offer tools and insights to help our listeners achieve their personal goals and dreams sooner rather than later….
OVERVIEW OF THE PODCAST
The interview recording lasts approximately 30 to 40 minutes. We schedule all interviews on the hour and allow 60 minutes for discussion prior to the recording and further discussion with me afterwards if you wish.
Please Note: We frequently book six recordings on one day, so we would appreciate it very much if you would be on time.
INTERVIEW FLOW
Introduction: I introduce the show and explain its mission.
Then I briefly introduce you—your background, accomplishments and what work you are doing now. I will precisely follow the 50 to 60-word biography you sent to us earlier.
Question #1. Are you using your talents and doing work that you love?
(I’m assuming your answer is Yes!)
Question #2. I’ve given our listeners a quick overview of your life today.
Please take a few minutes to share work or projects you are involved in right now that you are enthusiastic about. (Take 2 to 3 minutes to share what you’re up to)
Question #3. Everyone’s life journey is composed of a series of turning points. Some call them passages. At these important times we are each faced with issues, obstacles, opportunities, and choices that ultimately determine the course of our lives.
Will you please share with our listeners a few of the most memorable and impactful defining moments at the different stages of your career?
This part of the interview will be a back and forth discussion between you and me about your life’s journey: challenges and successes; inspirations and insights; influential people; critical decisions and more….
These are the typical turning points we each pass through. While there are many ways to configure the age ranges; we chose this one for the sake of simplicity.
- Early Childhood and Teens
- Early Career: 23 to 33
- Mid-Career: 34 to 44
- Late Career: 45 to 55
- Pre-Retirement: 56 to 66
- Retirement: 67+
Question #4. What aspects of your life have been most affected by you choosing to use your talents to do work that you love?
Question #5. Why do you think you are one of the few who has discovered your talents and are doing work you love? (In a recent world-wide Gallup survey of Worker Satisfaction, 86% of the 230,000 respondents in 142 countries said they are “highly dissatisfied” with the work they do. In the U.S. 70% of workers are “highly dissatisfied” and only 1% “love their work.”)
Question #6. When did you reach the “point-of-no-return” in your life when you decided you would never again do work that did not use your talents and gifts?
Question #7. What is the first step you took to begin using your talents?
Question #8. What are the most powerful lessons you’ve learned that would help our listeners on their journeys to building a life of success, satisfaction and freedom?
Question #9. Do you have a book or books you could recommend that have been helpful to you in your journey?
Question #10. The Internet plays a huge role in people’s lives today. Do you have an Internet resource that you use that you could recommend? (This might be a social media platform like Twitter or a software application like BlueHost for building out your website.)
Question #11. What does the future hold? What’s your personal vision for the next two to three years. (What obstacles might hold you back? How will you overcome them?)
Question #12. How would you like to be remembered?
