209. You Oughta Be in Pictures – Building Your Biz with Live Video
Casey Zeman is the bestselling author of Build Your Audience with Live Video, founder of the webinar platform, EasyWebinar (software that does both live and automated webinars) and the new Periscope analytic and marketing software Fullscope.Tv. With over 6,000 EasyWebinar customers and thousands of Fullscope users, Casey has figured out what works and what doesn’t in webinars, live broadcasts, and video and what makes a truly engaged audience. He’s also consulted for Harper Collins, Estee Lauder and Dell on video marketing strategies and lead nurture funnels using webinars.
How Did You Start Using Your Talents?
A natural actor, singer and all around performer from an early age, Casey performed professionally on theater stages in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles until he tired of the role of starving actor. With his love for live performances and audiences, his debut in live internet video and webinars was a natural transition.
The Most Impactful Turning Point?
Working in real estate as a mortgage broker was a dramatic transition away from live theater. Marrying an actor, buying a house, Casey built up a good career. Then the recession of 2008 hit, slashing his income from $250,000 to $15,000. He began searching online in hopes of finding sales leads and building a marketing funnel for real estate or financial advisor clients but connected with a friend who had built a successful membership site. His friend’s advice—“You should create an online course”—set him on his current, successful path.
The Most Powerful Lessons Learned?
There was a second part to his friend’s advice about creating an online course: pick one thing and become a master at it. For Casey, “YouTube was that one thing. It led me back to my passion, which was video and being in front of the camera. YouTube let me use a medium I was used to, that I loved and was familiar with. I jumped in and started learning everything about YouTube.”
