Julienne Burleson

Julienne Burleson spent five years in an Ecuadorian prison because her so-called friends set her up with hidden cocaine. Featured on “60 Minutes” with the late Mike Wallace in the segment, “Innocence Abroad,” Julienne now speaks and writes about her inspirational story. Her bestselling book, Surviving Camp Inca, was released in July 2015.

How Did You Start Using Your Talents?

As she worked to prove she was innocent of drug smuggling, Julienne sharpened her mind and deepened her spirituality by reading extensively, reflecting on her life, and teaching herself reflexology. “I have the best of two worlds now, combining the author-speaker path with the reflexology path when I’m at home.”

The Most Impactful Turning Point?

At the airport in Quito, Ecuador, as customs officers discovered cocaine in the frames of paintings she was accompanying, her habit of freely trusting people quickly changed. Freed from prison, she realized that her newfound suspicion of people gradually was transformed into discernment, which she views as a spiritual gift.

The Most Powerful Lessons Learned?

“No matter what you’ve been through in your life, it is possible to move past it, learn and grow from it, and become a better person.” In prison, she reviewed the many small decisions that led up to her imprisonment, strengthened her faith and taught herself a trade, the energy work of reflexology.
