Getting a job - Never do what you "Should"
When people start looking for a job, “They ‘should’ all over themselves,” explains Kathleen Brady. They go to what “makes sense. ‘My dad is an accountant so I should be an accountant.’ I always try to get them to put that ‘should’ aside and start by asking, ‘What’s my dream?’”
Why Is This Important?
The emotional side of the brain is key before bringing in the analytical. Don’t worry about whether it’s practical, impractical or even silly. From the silly dream you can brainstorm, where might there be some opportunities. Then you can start doing the research and bringing in the analytic side.
What Are the Key Lessons Learned Here?
Beginning with a clear idea of your earliest or persistent dream, probably from childhood, ask yourself these four key questions: 1) What do you want? 2) Why do you want it? 3) What do you have to do to get it? 4) Are you prepared to do those things?
