1194. Make a Difference Every Day
Scott Robison, Lieutenant Colonel (retired)
“I am a Special Forces veteran, with 23 years of active federal service. When I retired, I decided that I wanted to do something for others who struggle with issues from military and public service. I founded Camp Cowboy to be a safe haven where people know they belong and are part of a family”.
“Make a Difference Every Day”
Scott Robison, Founder, Camp Cowboy
“At Camp Cowboy, our mission is to use the powerful bond between horse and man to create an experience that allows veterans to cope with and heal from the burdens they carry.
“This is a nonprofit organization located in the heart of Texas and is founded and operated by veterans. Camp Cowboy is dedicated to assisting those who serve and have served our nation–and their families–navigate and overcome the stressors associated with military life. We also welcome first responders and their families as we know they face similar stressors.
“Years ago, our first class had three people and we floundered through it, but it worked. Our most recent 90-day class this past summer had 50 people in it and is now based on a curriculum developed by cowboy Hall of Famer Larry Mahan, Tony Cole, a multiple Purple Heart recipient, and myself.
“It is just incredible that at every class, there will probably also be 10 or 15 previous class members that have gone through Camp Cowboy and always want to come back and give back as volunteers, to be an assistant instructor or help with rider safety or whatever else. And some just come back to hang out on the ranch.”
