162. A Spiritual Awakening and a Solo Flight Around the World
Robert DeLaurentis, “Zen Pilot,” recently completed a solo flight around the world. The Navy Gulf War veteran is a successful author, real estate entrepreneur, philanthropist and pilot. His book, “Flying Thru Life,” was just released as an Amazon Top Seller. He holds an advanced graduate degree in spiritual psychology.
How Did You Start Using Your Talents?
“I was intensely focused on building a business for 20 years, passing on a lot of opportunities and relationships. I got to the point about five years ago where I had added enough buildings—I was a landlord—and it was no longer exciting to do another deal.”
The Most Impactful Turning Point?
“The turning point came when I was walking through Balboa Park, practicing silence. The sky was bluer, the grass greener, the light was luminous. I was what I call blissing. I knew I had hit a wall in my business and was stressed out. That’s when things really started to change.”
The Most Powerful Lessons Learned?
“Flying Through Life, the title of my book, means that purpose and passion are in alignment with spirit. I don’t think my purpose was ever the Navy or accounting. I do believe what I’m doing now is very much in alignment with my purpose, bringing together business, spirituality and flying for philanthropic reasons.

“Social media was a beautiful way to reach out and touch hearts as I was flying around the world. I would often try and post something along the way. I think people were able to come along on the trip. It wasn’t my journey but it was our journey.”
